Firm Description
Crawford Partnership was established in 1997 by Alan Crawford as a ‘boutique style’ London based design led architecture and interior design practice.
Crawford Partnership is managed by Alan and Maria Crawford, and enjoys an interesting and diverse workload. Our design influences are many, from art and technology, science and nature, travel and literature, and with each unique project aspiring to create beautiful crafted forms and spaces and incorporate materials and technology that enable designs that maximise on light, space and comfort for our clients to enjoy and to provide visual delight for all.
Our portfolio includes many examples of new build designs for multi storey apartment blocks, bespoke residential new build homes, refurbishment and renovation of existing properties, with much of our work involving sensitive Listed Buildings or in Conservation Areas. Many of our projects in the residential sector focus on new ways of addressing the issues of rapidly expanding city populations that are placing huge demands on the provision of economic and sustainable forms of housing, and one area of our work which has developed into an important niche area for the practice has been in our involvement in developing designs for small one off ‘signature’ houses on small urban infill sites around London. Working on these compact sites has enabled our better understanding of economies of space and cost of materials needed to successfully complete these homes, and this skill and experience is now being applied on much larger projects.
Increasingly, our studies have been focused on issues of working and living in London that have directed our work philosophy towards more mixed use community orientated designs that incorporate combinations of commercial, retail, educational, leisure and residential components. We are also exploring ‘off site’ construction methodology and technologies for our projects that enable quality, sustainable building construction at competitive cost levels.Crawford Partnership has established a growing reputation for innovative design solutions and in 2007, were included in the *WALLPAPER Design Magazine Architects Directory as “One of 101 of the world’s most exciting new architects”. In 2012, our new family home called ‘the Lighthouse’ by the owners won the London Borough of Haringey ‘Best Home’ award, in 2013, our residential project at Beaumont Mews won the ‘People’s Choice Award’ in the London Borough of Camden Design Awards, and In 2014 and 2015, we were shortlisted finalists in the prestigious Society of British Interior Designers International Design Awards.
