Firm Description

Mark Hackett is a Belfast based architect with a practice specialising in building, research and urban design. The practice has experience in large urban projects and cultural buildings, with expertise in theatre and art gallery design. Other specialisms include research and urban design in divided cities.

Mark is currently a director in City Reparo, a multidisciplinary consultancy with the skills to implement city improvement and transformation. ( www.cityreparo.org ) He was previously a founding director of the urban group Forum for Alternative Belfast which was a lobbying think tank working with communities and government to advocate for better urban design solutions for the city.

Mark won the UK and Ireland ‘Young Architect of the Year Award’ in 2008. He was a founding partner in Hackett Hall McKnight and in this practice completed a number of award winning buildings including the MAC arts centre which was awarded the Downes Medal by the Architectural Association of Ireland and was nominated for the European Union Mies van der Rohe award. Mark wound up his interest in the practice during 2010-11 following a philanthropic award to progress the urban work of the Forum for Alternative Belfast.
