Max Fordham LLP is an environmental building services engineering consultancy. For over 50 years, they have engineered energy, air, light and sound to bring buildings to life. From their offices in London, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol, they have worked with the world’s leading architects on some of the world’s greatest buildings. Max Fordham's portfolio includes award-winning exemplars of sustainable design and a diverse mix of beautifully engineered buildings.Max Fordham started his own practice in the spare bedroom of his Camden home in 1966. The practice has now grown to more than 220 people in five offices around the United Kingdom. The Practice’s Cambridge office opened in 2000 and a job won at Telford College in Scotland in 2003 led to a presence in Edinburgh. Continued growth of the Practice resulted in the establishment of offices in Manchester and Bristol, both in 2012.
The Practice is a Limited Liability Partnership and is essentially employee-owned, with over 120 partners.
In 2010, the Practice celebrated with Zaha Hadid Architects when the Museum of XXI Century Art (MAXXI) won the Stirling Prize. The Practice celebrated their second Stirling Prize win in 2016 with Caruso St John Architects for Newport Street Gallery. These project awards are just some of many secured over the years, including RIBA House of the Year for Richard Murphy’s own home (Murphy House), and CIBSE Building Performance Project of the Year for Keynsham Civic Centre in 2017 and again in 2018 for Oriam Sports Performance Centre.
Max Fordham has also won a number of practice-related awards, including ACE Inclusion and Diversity Champion of the Year, and CIBSE Building Consultancy of the Year, both in 2017.
