Today, multinational firm CannonDesign announced its acquisition of design/build services firm GKKWorks. With approximately 100 employees across offices in Irvine, Calif., Pasadena, Calif., San Diego, Denver, and Pune, India, GKKWorks will grow CannonDesign's total number of office locations to 24 and expand CannonDesign's West Coast presence.
“There are signals of change that focus on new or progressive models of project/construction delivery,” said CannonDesign CEO, Brad Lukanic, AIA, in a press release. “Our merger with GKKWorks is another step in expanding our West Coast partnerships but, more importantly, it will further expand CannonDesign beyond architecture and engineering solutions toward a fully integrated approach for our clients.”
Founded in 1991 by Praful Kulkarni, GKKWorks offers in-house construction services, which complement its planning and design offerings. “When we started GKKWorks more than 26 years ago, we did so with the belief that architecture and construction are inseparable, and that applying a thorough understanding of each is critical to the success of any project,” Kulkarni said in the same release. “CannonDesign is completely aligned with that belief, and the firm’s expansive service offerings and depth of talent strengthen our ability to provide significant value to our clients for a comprehensive successful project outcome.”
Going forward, Kulkarni will serve as CannonDesign's director of integrated services and focus on growing the practice's single-source design and delivery methods. GKKWorks will function under the name GKKWorks|CannonDesign before transitioning to the CannonDesign name at an unspecified future date.
This is CannonDesign's fourth acquisition since November 2017. The three other firms its has acquired are: Assembly Design Studio, FKP Architects, and Bennett Wagner Grody Architects.
