Pritzker Architecture Prize–winner and AIA Gold Medalist Richard Meier, FAIA, got his start at Cornell University, earning his B.Arch. in 1956, and this week his alma mater announced that it is naming the head of the architecture department after him as part of an endowment. From now on, the department head will hold the title of Richard Meier Chair of the Department of Architecture, which is part of Cornell’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. Associate professor Andrea Simitch, AIA, who has been the department chair since July 2017, will be the first chair under this new title. Cornell also offers two graduate scholarships as well as an assistant architecture professor position supported by the Meier family.
