Project Description
The in-place redesign of this suburban kitchen successfully blends function, comfort and delight. The result is at once both modern and classic and was achieved by the juxtaposition of crisp high-tech cabinetry, appliances and countertops with warm natural materials, fabrics and color. The heart of the working kitchen (naturally all cabinets and appliances) is softened by two radial, mirrored pendant lights, a handmade throw rug and roman shades on the window over the sink. Immediately adjacent to this, the cozy breakfast area nestles against a softly draped window wall, with a curved, upholstered bench and elegant, comfy chairs all gathered around a custom reclaimed oak table-top on a stone base with an elegant chandelier overhead. The artisanal feel of the hand-made and patinaed table, light fixtures, seating and drapes brings the craft of the hand together with that of fine engineering. Lastly the bold color palette and patterns of the fabrics, back-splash and throw rug pull the composition together and add an element of fun and surprise.
