Project Description
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
This distinctive residence provides a surprising sense of expanded space and blurs the relationship between inside and out, setting a new standard for a semi-urban home. An unexpected double-story lens-like curvilinear void runs the length of the residence to create transcending relationships among internal living areas, and between the inside of the house and out. A 52-foot continuous sky-light and sunshade extends along the curve of the void, while indirect natural light floods the center of the residence. The primary circulation of the home occurs along the curve, converging and diverging at threshold moments, creating sinuous pathways that are punctuated by city views, framed within the vertical slot of space. The lens-like slot of space becomes a viewing device, allowing for both surprising internal and external connections.
