Contemporary, modern, upbeat—the new Brandman Centers for Senior Care is a healthcare facility that looks unlike traditional, senior daycare clinics. Designed by GMPA Architects, Inc., this recently completed facility in Reseda, California is the Los Angeles Jewish Home’s first Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), and it is envisioned as a prototype.
The new PACE Center offers healthcare, social services and personal care in an environment that is a departure from the typical clinical setting. Thoughtfully designed, the spaces are functional yet elegant. A sophisticated color palette, upscale lighting and geometric, wood accents lend a hospitality feel to the reception area. As you walk through the facility, daylight filters throughout, creating an uplifting participant experience and allowing open views and connections to nature. The overall design respects participants and staff and serves as a model for future PACE facilities, providing not only healthcare, but welcoming surroundings in a relaxed environment.
The Center features softly muted colors, easy orientation, natural materials and an intimate, landscaped courtyard with olive trees and a soothing water feature. Carefully selected and placed lighting fixtures accentuate and unify the interior spaces. Interior highlights include rounded corners of the ceiling coffers, punctuated with dramatic lighting. The design inspiration is a refreshing adaptation of mid-century modern with clean lines, repetition of a circle motif (used in chair upholstery, lighting fixtures, the design on the frosted glass panel dividers and the interior of the elevator), drought tolerant plant materials, glass tile accents in the bathrooms, a bamboo finish on the doors, and warm colors in beige tones with soft red and orange accents.
