Project Description
It was all about using good design to thoughtfully appoint this home for it's special family. These parents of 5 adult children were looking to freshen up the hub of their blended family activity. They host weekly dinners, family celebrations and all the holidays. They have guitar lessons and yoga lessons at home, they host game nights, good TV nights and pool days. It's where out-of-towners stay, where dogs romp and where they cook, work and recreate. The home was a well built custom. The client's needs and tastes had changed, but they had a garage full of treasure and a home full of quality finishes and architecture. We are so proud of the outcome and how it serves our clients and their extended family! The clients are the Plessners, Mitch is an archivist who works from an office in the home, and Gayle is starting on her 2nd career as a PHD Psychologist. They have 3 dogs, Hermione, Snoop and Lucy and they love to cook and entertain. The home was custom built by Gayle in the 80's, she used a builder named David Schaub and his son. When it came time to remodel, I looked up David Schaub, and found that the SON now builds with HIS son, now 3 generations of Schaub Construction have made this home special! We changed room uses, we added storage for family treasure, we re-used good old furniture and hearty finishes, we changed the flow to conform with current tastes and their preference, we added bookshelves everywhere, we used their garage storage as a shopping mall, we installed classic finishes and dealt with realities like huge TVs and large collections. We used gumby, a vw van, kids art and family treasures to accessorize. With sound design principals and thoughtful reworking of the footprint, we created a quiet backdrop for this family’s rich life and history.
