Project Description
Chatham II was designed by Teakwood Enterprises, Inc. to reflect the original Chatham Manor (Circa 1768 – 1771) located in historic Fredericksburg, VA.
Teakwood had the challenge of combining the traditional look of Chatham Manor in the front, while also reflecting the clients desire for a contemporary look in the rear, that was inspired by projecting the image of Cantilevers of Falling Water. Using ICF Technology (Insulated Concrete Forms) and LiteDeck Flooring for the entire building, Teakwood set out, using our 3-D software, to to produce a spectacular home that transitions with elegant ease from Traditional to Contemporary throughout the entire home!
Being that this was our first building using ICF Technology and LiteDeck Flooring, there were multiple challenges along the way. Each step, from planning and permitting to the actual build out, proved to be an education not only for Teakwood, but also for Spotsylvania County. Working together with the county, we were able to provide the owners with an outstanding home, that is not only pleasing to the eye, but also hides the many features as listed below in the Sustainability Highlights.
On April 18th, 2014, Virginia experienced a magnitude 5.8 Earthquake. Many houses in the area received visible damage as a result. Upon inspection of Chatham II, no damage was found! The ICF construction of Chatham II can also withstand high winds of 250 mph! Quite a nice feature in Hurricane prone areas such as Virginia!
To know that we were able to combine Traditional with Contemporary flawlessly, while using a building technique completely new to us, was not only a challenge, but and inspiration! We now have the knowledge and know-how to go forward with even greater challenges for future Design/Build Projects! We can honestly say, “If You Can Dream It, We Can Build It”!
We are very proud that Chatham II not only won 1st Place in the Fredericksburg Area Parade of Homes in 2013, but also won 1st Place in the 2013 International ICF Builders Awards! Teakwood Enterprises Inc. would be proud and honored to add Builders Choice to our growing list of awards!
