Project Description
From the Architects:
Sponsored by The Museum of Modern Art and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the Young Architects Program is an annual competition that gives emerging architects the opportunity to build projects conceived for P.S.1’s outdoor courtyard in Long Island City. Selected as the winner in 2000 to create a structure for P.S.1’s courtyard, SHoP designed Dunescape for the art center’s summer series event, Warm Up 2000. Designed to provide a variety of ways to enjoy the summer weather, visitors can lounge, socialize, sunbathe, wade in pools, or walk through a spray of water mist to cool off. SHoP's model of the proposed design was acquired by the MoMA in 2006.
