Project Description
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
CITYSCAPE
The shape of the building and its mobile structure are directly related to their own changing landscape of the commercial port. The possibility for visual connection between the park and the harbor is maintained. The architectural front of Helsinki remains as a stable background. The dock platform remains free for public events and activities specific of the harbor. The bulding allows adaptability for different areas of public space according to the building configuration.
BUILDING CONFIGURATION
The building comprises three parts with different functions: a tower with open spaces for access and exhibitions; another tower for services and management; an elevated volume containing most of the gallery spaces. The main volume of the museum can vary its position in height so that changes its relationship to the environment, to the complementary spaces and even to the type of public access. Spaces housed in the two towers potentially have a threefold relationship, first with the outdoor covered area of the museum, second with the exhibition galleries volume and finally, in the upper levels of the building, with the harbor landscape.
