Project Description
As primary interior architect, Spector Group consolidated Heineken from two locations into the company’s headquarters at 360 Hamilton Avenue in White Plains, New York. The project consisted of the redesign and expansion of Heineken’s bar and social zones, and the enhancement and densification of their existing 60,000-square-foot bi-level space. In an effort to encourage Heineken’s culture through architecture, Spector Group’s design involves an open plan with a variety of social hubs allowing for maximum employee interaction and engagement. Upon entering the space, employees and guests are greeted by a palette of simple raw materials, which are offset by modern design elements throughout the expansive bar, “insperience” hub and reception area. Designed for flexibility, these open areas cater to large events, training programs and other multi-use functions. The modern ceiling feature, large interactive digital screens and experiential bar design capture the brand’s forward-thinking and innovative culture.
In an effort to densify and support the new open work style, all dedicated office spaces were converted to meeting and team rooms. Each meeting room’s design showcases the Heineken portfolio and is equipped for the gamut of meeting styles and needs. To maximize connectivity, Spector Group opened up and redesigned the existing intercommunicating stairway between the two floors and main social zones. A centrally located café encourages spontaneous interaction and increases the sense of community. Platforms around the base of the staircase provide a casual breakout environment for employees to enjoy coffee or lunch together.
“Creating an open and collaborative environment was our primary goal for Heineken’s new office design,” said Scott Spector, AIA, a principal of Spector Group. “The design fosters teamwork and synergy between departments; and with a history-rich company such as this, it was essential that we create a space that couples the timelessness of the brand with its modern office culture.”
“We leveraged Spector Group’s expertise to create a work environment that fosters collaboration, teamwork and transparency,” said Ron Siesser, Senior Director of Human Resources at Heineken, USA. “Our new headquarters is now teeming with energy and excitement and reflects our commitment to being a social, communal and, most important, fun portfolio of brands.”
