Project Description
Tucked away on a private wooded lot on a hillside, this home aptly named “Home, Unplugged,” was built to take advantage of the serenity its surroundings. The clients came to Meadowlark wanting to build home that would take them away from the demands of their busy work schedules – a place to retreat and rejuvenate their bodies and minds, a place to unplug from the day-to-day stresses of their job demands. They also wanted a home that would be built to last, easy to maintain, and ultra-energy efficient. In addition, (from travel worldwide and from family heirlooms), they had a wonderful collection of objets d'art they hoped to incorporate into the design so they could be properly displayed and enjoyed. The clients' grandmother was a renowned artist in Korea; pieces of her embroidered artistry act as key focal points in several of the rooms. This Asian-inspired home is not only beautiful, it is also full of features that make the home super resource-efficient, as well as easy to maintain. Superior wall foundations, SIP walls and roof, geothermal heating and cooling, an Energy Recovery Ventilator, radiant floor heat, and renewable finishes are just a few of the components that will keep this home beautiful, healthy, and energy-efficient for many years to come. Natural prairie grass vegetation with landscaping that is maintenance-free makes this home beautiful and easy to enjoy, inside and out, all year round.
