Project Description
Liberty Center, located midway between Dayton and Cincinnati, is a mixed-use Town Center in the tradition of planned towns all over the American Midwest. The urban ensemble is designed around a rich public realm formed by the streets and three urban spaces: a hardscape square, a green park, and a rooftop acropolis. The Square, anchored by a hotel, serves as an active civic center for the adjacent entertainment venues, including a movie theater and a comedy club. The Green offers a more relaxed and landscaped setting close to the residential buildings. The Acropolis, at the center of the site, includes a lush rooftop landscape, destination restaurants, a contemplative garden, and a multi-denominational chapel. The program is one of a rich, active 20 hour a day place. It offers 925,000 sf of retail space including a 16-screen cinema, department stores and restaurants, a 150-room hotel, 100,000 sf of office and 200 residential apartments and townhouses. Torti Gallas worked intimately with the client team, theming consultant, and landscape architect and was responsible for visioning, concept urban design, and conceptual architecture. The design team created a rich urban fabric to complement and enhance the programmatic requirements of the site. The resulting town is easily accessible and navigable by visitors, yet rewarding and playful for residents. With architecture inspired by the historic small towns of the Midwest, Liberty Center will feel inviting and familiar while offering a wholly new experience. The project has recently broken ground and Phase 1 is slated to open in Fall 2015.
