Project Description
The Bergen Street housing project represents a further application of the infill site prototype originally developed for projects such as 256 16th Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The site is located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn at the intersection of Dean and Bergen Streets.
The project consists of six separate buildings, made up of three prototypical units containing a total of 48 apartments. Each building is a 4 1/2 story walkup with, in some cases, a partial cellar floor. The upper apartment is a duplex with a mezzanine floor. The glass enclosed stairwells at the building’s front afford a clear view of the street from within and can be clearly viewed from the sidewalk, thus adding to the building’s sense of security.
The project reflects RKTB’s ongoing commitment to the research and development of low cost housing alternatives.
