Project Description
FROM AIA CHICAGO:
The Midwest pool house is an addition to a summer residence designed as a gathering place for an expansive family’s farm estate. The program of the addition is divided into a set of wood and glass pavilions that are tied together through a Douglas Fir trellis structure.
The main living space is comprised of a glass clerestory exterior that is integrated with the structure of the trellis, modulating direct sunlight during hot summer days and providing ample shade for outdoor terrace spaces. Providing a consistent architectural expression, the structure continues into the interior with stainless steel trusses connecting the beams of the trellis structure. The natural warmth of the Douglas Fir trellis is accentuated by illuminated fabric panels. Stone paving is pulled from the exterior pool deck and into the interior spaces, further enhancing the connection between the pavilions.
