Project Description
This Millennial couple contacted us after they bought this cedar shake ranch that had been vacant for years. Run down and in need of some TLC, they were excited about the possibilities it held for their new family. After our initial programming, we determined that the way they wanted to live {lots of entertaining, love of cooking, family centric, outdoor living, master suite sanctuary} was not supported by the existing layout {narrow galley kitchen, closed off rooms, lack of master suite, dysfunctional layout}. The challenge was they thought they had bought the perfect house and hired us with the expectation to spend their money on furniture and decorating. As their trusted professional, we took time to evaluate the way they wanted to live and what their immediate/long term goals were. We went back to them with our thoughtful recommendation to completely gut and renovate the entire first floor; room placement, layout and function. After taking some time to think things over they agreed that looking at the big picture for what they wanted in a home, {he called this his "forever" house - Bury me here… he said} they decided to proceed with an entirely new vision. This new vision included moving the kitchen to the den, the dining to the kitchen, the den to the dining, two bedrooms into one master, and so the story goes…. The challenges were great as they had to live through this massive renovation with a three year old and infant living in the basement of the home. This three year interior project has come to completion and was capped off with the filming of an award-winning cooking show in the kitchen: the producer loved what a perfect house this was to entertain in and the large open kitchen design.
