Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist
Originally built in 1873, sited between a majestic oak tree and the rocky coast of Manchester-By-The-Sea, OakLedge had fallen into disrepair and needed complete renovation. After thorough analysis revealed that most of the structure was not sound for restoration, the goal was to rebuild the home as if it had simply evolved from its original 1870’s Stick Style into an 1890’s Shingle Style. This new design pays homage to turn of the century seaside cottages, including wrapping the walls and roof with red cedar shingles, employing decorative shingle patterns and details, building deep verandas and balconies, and utilizing an open floor plan.
The interior of the home centers around the classic paneled “Living Hall” with the grand staircase leading to a large landing featuring a custom leaded glass window. A modern kitchen was designed in a traditional manner with integrated appliances, classic paneling and a separate beadboard pantry. The house is a showcase of custom carpentry and the skill of the craftsmen is evident throughout the exterior and interior of the home.
