Project Description
This project provides new office space in remodeled and new construction adjacent to an assembly plant for a furniture and interior products manufacturer. The goal was to transform the existing space into an interactive environment for clients and staff while maintaining as much of the existing structure as possible. A new three-story-high work-showroom space has been layered on to the existing three-story structural frame. This space acts as a product demonstration lab, while also providing for client engagement and mock-up areas. Vertical tower elements organize the different work zones by projecting into the three-story space. These towers provide areas for informal collaboration and designate centers of excellence for specialty services and products to help tell the story of the client’s business. Variations in tones of red, the client’s color, allow the towers to act as strong modulating elements within the work-showroom space. An underfloor air system over the existing structure increases energy efficiency, provides flexibility, and allows for ceiling heights which maximize light penetration. The office space in this refurbished structure is a reconfigurable chassis based on work types organized into "dynamic" (open office), "temporal" (rooms of movable partitions) and "place" (permanent infrastructure) zones.
