Project Description
Following a successful completion of neighboring buildings, the builder and a neighboring land owner undertook the development of a land parcel perched on a nearby hillside. The site slopes dramatically between the single-family neighborhood of Austin's West Campus and the commercial properties along Lamar Boulevard below. The design of three 2500 SF buildings at once provided the opportunity to create a community of modern houses that are both open to the out of doors and private, all while being in close proximity to each other. The southern orientation and great change in elevation provide an amazing view of downtown. Each house is designed to both open to the view and to its adjacent gardens – combining the drama of vista with the intimacy of a private environment. The kitchen at Parkside's Unit B was designed to showcase the exterior views and the adjacent gardens of the site. The kitchen is an extension of the living, dining and lounge area so it was important to maintain a clean and modern space. Matte gray and white painted cabinetry combine with a vertical white subway tile back splash to compliment the clean white walls of the other spaces and allow the rich greenery that appears through every window to be the star. Black granite countertops tie in with the exterior's black gravel ground cover and the island's waterfall edge mirrors the profile of the black window and door frames. Full height cabinetry allows for the client to have a clutter free kitchen while the pantry’s open shelving provides the client with a place to display accessories. Stainless steel modern appliances and chrome plumbing fixtures create a clean and functional environment.
