Project Description
Perched on a picturesque knoll surrounded by rugged bluffs and sweeping views, this 128-acre site called for a design that spoke to its Western legacy while honoring the client's wishes for a modern design that paid homage to their Moroccan heritage. The result? A custom home that strikes a harmonious balance between modern and earthy, Western and Moroccan, in the heart of Larkspur, Colorado’s rugged landscape. Vertical Arts turned the owners’ vision into a reality through site planning, architecture, interior design, equestrian design and landscape architecture.
The home features flat, cantilevered roofs, exposed steel beams, concrete form walls, and extensive views from its top-of-the-line windows. The inside is as well-imagined as the exterior, boasting an exquisite kitchen and living room with luxurious living quarters and ample room for visitors to the ranch.
The Perry Park home features a unique blend of modern lines and a rich, natural palette. The interiors were designed to highlight and strengthen the architectural character of the home. Massy stone walls combined with light steel windows creates a dichotomy worth celebrating. Reclaimed wood flooring, tumbled travertine tiles and plaster walls and ceilings create a harmonious palette through most of the home. Vivid pops of color and character are brought in with unique furnishings, rugs and art.
The owner’s Moroccan roots shine through the vintage rugs, antique furniture and custom, steel cut Moroccan screens. Custom smoked larch and metallic blue cabinets contrast each other to create a modern flair in the bespoke kitchen. A custom designed and fabricated breakfast booth offers views to the inner courtyard of the home.
Sustainable elements were subtly incorporated into the home, including geothermal heat, on-site water retention for fire mitigation, warm-board flooring, full- house automation for climate control, integrated shades and large overhangs for sun shading.
Landscaping was an important component of the Tazi Ranch design to ensure all of the property’s buildings and natural elements seamlessly complemented each other. The home wraps around a central courtyard that features three distinct seating areas: one for covered eating, a lower courtyard with a firepit and water feature, and an upper courtyard wit a, hot tub, concrete fire pit and greenhouse. The home’s hardscaping is softened by pockets of landscaping that bleed into the travertine pavers. The house tucks into the natural hillside, which is vegetated with native plantings. The combination of formal and natural elements creates a truly unique space.
The Perry Park residence was honored by Colorado Homes and Lifestyles as 2017 Home of the Year and awarded Regional Winner in Contemporary Architecture at the Luxe Red Awards in 2018.
