Project Description

Builder’s Choice and Custom Home Awards Finalist

Conceived as an island retreat for a busy executive, the main intent of the design was to capture both bay and gulf views from the elevated living floors while preserving the natural coastal hammock habitat of the inland waterway side of the property.

Constructed with a deep driven piling foundation to rigorous coastal building standards, the structural frame of the building is constructed entirely of cast in place concrete, including the main roof structures.

As all of the interior and exterior finish flooring was cast in place topping consisting of white Portland cement with integral washed shell , (similar to Terrazzo), all of the finish flooring was installed, ground smooth, polished and sealed before any of the interior walls or doors and windows were put in place. Protection of the finish flooring was required during all remaining phases of construction through total project completion.

A workmanship tolerance of 1/8” was required between all of the structural and interior finish components to maintain the collaboration of the architectural and interior design intent.

Constructed over a period of 20 months, the project exemplifies integration and collaboration of true craftsmanship from structural concrete through fine architectural and interior finishes.
