Project Description

PTC’s new global headquarters encourages collaboration and integrates state-of-the-art lighting design and technology throughout the building’s top nine floors. Strongly influenced by the building’s elliptical shape, the team created a design that embraces collaboration while maximizing views and establishing destinations throughout. Two rows of curvilinear LED luminaires, spaced 16’ apart follow the building’s unique shape embracing the open workplace and enhancing the building’s architectural shape. The direct/indirect curvilinear pendant utilizes specifically designed optic lens to increase performance and incorporates daylight harvesting. Touchdown spaces anchor the North and South ends of the open offices and are where the curvilinear fixtures meet with 6’ diameter decorative pendant lights, create a visual destination for collaboration. Overscaled round recessed lights were placed at the intersection of huddle and conference rooms. The huddle rooms are illuminated by a series of 12” diameter cove lights with the LED engine placed facing up inside the luminaire housing to provide indirect diffused light out of the 12” aperture. Each conference room incorporates large hexagon-shaped luminaires, which is a motif of the company’s logo. Additional gathering spaces called “Hives,” located on each floor, showcase a different theme for their destination and utilize luminaires that range from colorful and energetic to quite and sophisticated.

The top floor is home to a world-class Customer Experience Center (CXC), where both the customer and the employee can experience Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technologies. A DMX- based control system is the engine for the CXC’s lighting experience. When individuals arrive a programmed ceiling panelinzed with backlight create a rippling-effect drawing visitors into the CXC Hall. The recessed curvilinear lights on the soffit establish way-finding and guide visitors through the entire floor. Upon arrival, each exhibit item is highlighted from above as a piece of art with soft focused RGB track heads. When the nearby iPad is in use, AR mode is enabled and the track lights dim and white diffused light turns on to support AR use. This dynamic lighting scene change is the gateway into their AR/VR experience. The CXC also features six meeting rooms, each with programmable curved LED lighting that can be adjusted to match each customer’s brand color. The 17th floor also has a large café for employees and customers to mingle, collaborative and interact. Various size diameter round disks floating in the exposed black ceiling and custom curvilinear recessed lights wrapping the entire floorplan create a cutting edge, high energy space with the breathtaking city view as the backdrop.
