Project Description
This cabin was originally built as a hunting camp by a bachelor and his helper. The original twenty four foot square structure was built with logs the owner cut from the site with walls as tall as they could reach. A cabinet in the corner and wood stove were complimented with a small bath, otherwise the cabin was pretty basic. After several years of marriage, children and grandchildren, the bachelor was ready to expand the hunting cabin into something a bit more fitting for a large family to enjoy. The result of exploring different ideas led to a new master Suite, Kitchen and Entry area, as well as generous outdoor spaces. The original cabin has now become the main living area of the home with a new stone fireplace and french doors opening to an expansive porch and private pond beyond. The original wood stove still resides in the cabin as well. The Master suite shares one of the original cabin walls and celebrates the structure by leaving the original logs exposed on one wall. The Master suite brings a bit of luxury in an appropriate scale to the new home. The new Kitchen is designed to accommodate large gatherings with the proper amenities required to prepare food for guests. The new entry provides plenty of room to store all the gear needed for enjoying outdoor activities. The new materials were all carefully chosen to create an expansion that honors the timelessness of the original structure. Porch columns cedar tress harvested on site by the owner making this addition a continuation of the original dream. Situated in a wooded setting and viewed from across the pond, the new cabin looks as though it has always been as it now stands. Several family gatherings and vacations have broken the cabin in, with new stories being told by the fireplace about the hands and vision that brought them all together.
