Project Description
For a company that provides high quality, precision-cut wood components for timber-frame structures, it made sense for their new production facility to be built from the same. Through innovative and cost-effective use of CLT and glulam, Sauter Timber built an industrial production facility that is much stronger and more attractive than the standard metal buildings more commonly used for these types of production facilities. The glulam moment frame forms a 23-foot-high ceiling while supporting a six-ton bridge crane designed to carry heavy timber trusses during production. CLT walls and roof panels added dimensional strength, stability and rigidity to the structure while PEFC- and FSC-certified wood helped meet sustainability goals. The use of wood allowed Sauter Timber to create a warm aesthetic for the 9,000-square-foot industrial building while keeping costs low; total installed cost of the structure was just $55 per square foot.
