Project Description

This post has been updated on February 28, 2017 with new renderings.

Complicated zoning restrictions combine with solar angles to produce the form of the Solar Carve Tower, an office tower situated between New York's High Line and the Hudson River. To maximize sun exposure to the pedestrian walkways on the adjacent High Line, Studio Gang Architects has designed a faceted facade that reduces shading along the sundecks using a strategy of "solar carving," which the firm defines as "using incident angles of the sun’s rays to sculpt building form."

Studio Gang Architects anticipates a 2015 completion date for the Solar Carve Tower, which will target LEED Silver certification.
