Project Description
The Stein Eriksen Residences represent a modern generation of the famed Stein Eriksen Lodge, which is arguably the most celebrated and renowned resort in Deer Valley, Utah. Unveiled as a fresh, mountain-contemporary destination centered on the benchmarks of class and luxury for which the Stein Eriksen brand has come to be regarded since its’ opening in 1983, the new residences embrace their mountain setting by offering ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes, easy access to Park City’s Historic Main Street and spectacular views of the neighboring Uintah mountain range. Situated in a most idyllic spot, the site lends itself to year-round outdoor leisure activities and an unparalleled alpine atmosphere. The impetus for the architectural style was to create a mountain-contemporary design aesthetic while promoting a mélange of modern and traditional design elements and materials. Built specifically as a retreat tailor-made for entertainment and relaxation, the residences showcase imported stone and refined woods reflective of luxurious mountain living. The simple, yet elegant steel and wood floating staircases and custom rift-sawn white oak woodwork complement the natural stone veneer, reclaimed wood siding and next generation corner mulled JELD-WEN windows. Consideration for the environment was not overlooked as the design features reclaimed wood siding and focused energy-saving efforts through the use of insulated closed-nail base sheathing on the ceiling and walls which combats the effects of thermal bridging. Moreover, the project’s dedication to sustainability has resulted in being awarded a gold-level NAHB-Green Certification which uses third-party testing to verify that a project meets the rigorous requirements of the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS). Unique features include expansive gathering spaces with floor-to-ceiling windows to capitalize on the views, 18-foot ceilings, master and junior-master bedrooms with elegantly appointed en-suite bathrooms, a gourmet entertainment kitchen with cutting-edge custom cabinetry including Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances as well as Waterworks, Toto, Grohe and Kohler fixtures throughout. High-end amenities include game and exercise rooms, laundry rooms on both the ski and bedroom levels, as well as, a private elevator. The mechanical system includes a high-efficiency, multi-zoned boiler which feeds the radiant heating system while a secondary heat pump/fan coil system works to provide efficient heating and cooling to zoned spaces and supplements the primary heat system for swing seasons and instant heat needs. Additionally, the residence includes two Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV’s) that draw fresh air into the building and evacuate stale air to the outside while recovering 80% of the air’s energy (heat) prior to evacuation. The lighting and electrical system features the Lutron Homeworks QS System, which manages not only lighting efficiency, scenes and dimming, but also automates the controls of the window shades, exterior fire pit, and other home audio and video amenities. To conclude, the Stein Eriksen Residences are deserving of the Watermark Award because they comprise an innovative and unique development that holds itself to the highest standards of design, construction and sustainability while enhancing a brand name already synonymous with exceptional mountain resort living.
