Project Description
Chengdu, China - MulvannyG2 Architecture won an international design competition to design Suning Chengdu Plaza, a mixed-use development in the heart of Chengdu, China. The development includes an alluring, 45-story luxury hotel and office tower upon a 12-story retail podium. The podium’s undulating glass facade provides an exciting screen for projected digital media. Each façade of Suning Chengdu Plaza responds to the site’s range of scales, from a grand civic plaza to intimate historic buildings. A sunken retail plaza and the hotel’s porte-cochere choreograph pedestrian and vehicular traffic, leveraging site constraints. The design also co-opts an emergency vehicle access road into a strollable retail experience showcasing local retailers.
