Project Description

SunLine Transit Agency has been pioneering zero emissions vehicles for most of its’ 35 year history. To showcase their innovations, they developed an educational learning center that attracts thousands of visitors each year to their facility. The Learning Center features a life-sized version of a fuel cell bus, interactive exhibits and a working hydrogen fuel cell. The entire facility is net-zero, producing more energy than it consumes.

Award winning green architect and author Eric Corey Freed of organicARCHITECT was tasked to design the space, along with the information and graphics for the entire exhibit. On a shoe string budget they were able to create an entertaining and engaging atmosphere.

The building originally housed a training and conference room. Lights were upgraded to LED spots, skylights were carefully placed to bring in natural daylight, and damaged solar panels were repurposed for creative flooring tiles.

The end result is a space that educates visitors of all ages about the importance and impact of hydrogen fuel cell, renewable vehicles and public transit.
