Project Description
Surf Gallery is a beachfront home designed for a couple relocating from the Midwest to enjoy their “empty nest” years near the ocean. They expected the usual programmatic elements of a beach house: spaces devoted the enjoyment of views, breezes, and water. They also wanted their home to be a functioning gallery for their extensive collection of modern art. They asked for a contemporary house that fits into the context of the surrounding historic beach community, and that feels comfortable for just the two of them yet comfortably accommodates visiting friends and family comfortably, The two-story mass facing the ocean creates a “house within a house” where the owners’ suite is stacked over the main living and dining spaces with large expanses of glass to take in the ocean view.
