Project Description
Living on a large piece of land in Springfield, MO, the owners needed a shed to store maintenance equipment for upkeep of their property. They asked us to build The Shed on a repurposed cul-de-sac beside their residence. Rather than referencing the design of the home The Shed is a singular element meant to stand alone in the landscape. The Shed is an exercise in the logic and clarity of prefabrication. The outbuilding is composed of identical modular frames, wall panels and roof trusses. The prefabricated galvanized steel components were welded in the architect’s shop, then transported to the site, where they were bolted together. Prefabrication saved construction time and ensured a high level of quality and precision. The Shed is simple and elemental. With its monumental form and restrained material palette, the utilitarian building becomes a sculptural element in the landscape.
