Project Description

Located within walking distance of the Metro station, the renovation of the Canada Dry bottling plant is an adaptive reuse project in the heart of Silver Spring. This former bottling plant is representative of Silver Spring’s industrial architecture dating from the 1940’s. In addition to renovating the historic building the program calls for the addition of new three-story apartments adjoining the historic structure.

The design required approval of the Maryland-National Capitol Park and Planning Commission and development guidelines required the developer to provide amenity spaces for public use.

Teaming with SK&I Architects, HCM was responsible for landscape architecture, detailed site design and was a strategic team member in preparing design documents to meet standards for approval by the Maryland-National Capitol Park and Planning Commission.

In addition, HCM was responsible for the design and detailing of all open space amenities such as streetscape, a pedestrian plaza, three interior courtyards, site furnishings, lighting and plantings.
