Project Description

Open competition proposal for the architecture of entrances, overall way finding, and a bridge in a recreational area southeast of Stockholm, adjacent to a national park.
The relationship between mankind and nature has undergone a radical change during the recent transition into the anthropocene era. So has the significance of ’nature’, or at least our perception of it as something untouched. The ’untouched and wild’ nature tends to be more of an illusion – a man made condition. And the places we go to experience this illusion of nature, adjacent to our modernized cities, are part of the massive cultivation that gradually envelope the globe. This leads to an alienation between us and nature.

This relationship is interesting, and it provokes an expression through architecture and art that relate to the borders and transitions into nature and recreational areas. The transition is not only a physical one – but indeed also a mental journey. Arriving also with your spirit to a place. The proposal mediates this journey through subtle and well known components of architecture; enclosures, portals and paving with a sharp border to non-architecture, i.e nature.
