Project Description
An entire interior renovation took place in this New York City apartment. This design was transitional, respecting the classical old-world New York and implementing contemporary design when appropriate. The kitchen was designed to be more contemporary than the rest of the apartment. The objective was to use sleek lines while compartmentalizing each element, this opened up the narrow kitchen. The materials were carefully thought-out, they are light in color and their reflectivity really brightens up the space. White lacquer cabinetry with a high gloss finish and the stone floor light is a light neutral palette. This left the opportunity to introduce color with stunning red ruby mosaic tiles on the back splash. Much of the living space is where you will see transitional design take place. The introduction of crown and cove moulding and furnishing depicts a more traditional approach.
A particular design challenge in this job was that the existing ceilings were relatively low. The designer used a coffered ceiling to bring detail to the ceilings and make them appear higher. Dark mahogany wood millwork enriches the main entrance. The frosted glass element gives intrigue and creates openness between the entry and living space. This detailed design end result exceeded the client’s expectations.
