Project Description
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
The Wacheno Welcome Center at CCC is a warm and welcoming facility greeting every student upon arrival to campus. CCC's focus on removing barriers that student face, including issues magnified by the Covid pandemic, meant it was critical for program spaces in this building be designed specifically to "meet students where they are.” All spaces are designed to support their introduction to the world of higher education through a balanced, open and safe environment that provides confidentiality where needed.
This facility was designed specifically with students of color, first generation students, low-income and non-traditional students in mind. Students enter the casual, comfortable, naturally lit, living room-like lobby space and are greeted with the friendly face of a cross-trained peer to assist with navigation to the services they seek. The building is located at the main entry point to campus and is connected to the existing Community Center where student clubs and organizations all have an “address” facing the main student lounge and social gathering space.
