April 18 update: The regular deadline is extended by ONE WEEK, to April 27.
April 6 update: ARCHITECT is thrilled to announce our three esteemed jurors below.

To celebrate the building research, materials, and technologies that are revolutionizing the process and product of architecture, ARCHITECT is proud to announce its 10th annual R+D Awards. The distinctive program honors innovation in architecture at every scale—from novel design and construction strategies, to advanced building systems and details, to must-have products and digital tools, and to newfound building typologies that are changing how people live and work.

While many architectural competitions focus on the end result—namely, the design or construction of a project—ARCHITECT's R+D Awards emphasizes the ideas and systems that enable us all to dream big in the first place. The awards herald the elegance of iteration, the fierceness of one's resolve, and the fulfillment of a previously unmet need.

The program is open to architects, engineers, fabricators, manufacturers, researchers, students, and designers in all disciplines, recognizing the range of disciplines involved in design and planning. Past winners have included small firms, large firms, individuals, and teams with collaborators from around the world, with projects ranging from a Passive House–certified home for $105 per square foot to a cradle-to-cradle carpet backing to a post-occupancy study of green roofs.

Your entry will be reviewed by three multi-talented thought leaders and practitioners in the building profession:
Mic Patterson, vice president of strategic development of Enclos
Doug Stockman, AIA, principal and co-founder of El Dorado
Elizabeth Whittaker, AIA, principal and founder of Merge Architects

Start today by registering online and preparing your submissions—all it takes is an abstract (500 words maximum) and support materials (20 images or pages maximum). Keep it simple. Make it compelling. Your entries will be reviewed by a panel of three jurors, who will be announced shortly.

Finalize your submission online by the early-bird deadline of April 15, 2016, and pay $175 to register the first entry, and $95 for each subsequent entry. Submit your entry by the regular deadline of April 20 April 27 and pay an additional $50 per entry. This year, we are also introducing a reduced registration fee of $95 for entrants who are full-time faculty members, students, or researchers at academic institutions.
