Each year, the NAHB Research Center hosts the Energy Value Housing Awards (EVHA) dinner ceremony at the International Builders' Show. The EVHA program honors builders who voluntarily integrate energy efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of new homes and educates the home building industry and the public about successful approaches to energy-efficient construction. This year, 10 companies were honored for achieving success while incorporating energy efficiency and environmental stewardship in their business operations and product offerings.
The 2004 EVHA gold and silver award winners are: Aspen Homes, Windsor, Colo.; Cambridge Homes, Charlotte, N.C.; Chuck Miller Construction, Hidden Springs, Idaho; Marlette Homes, Hermiston, Ore.; Medallion Homes, San Antonio; Pruett Builders, Sarasota, Fla.; R-Valued Homes, Wasilla, Alaska; The Tower Cos., Bethesda, Md.; WCI Communities, Bonita Springs, Fla.; and the City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department, Phoenix.
Chuck Miller Construction won the 2004 EVHA Builder of the Year--the highest honor of the night. This award is given to the company that best typifies energy value and reflects the award program's goals. EVHA judges reported that the company "is building great homes from design through [homeowner] orientation."
Other energy- and resource-efficient products and practices included in the homes of 2004 EVHA winners include fluorescent lighting, solar hot-water heating, low-E glass windows, optimum value engineering, tankless water heaters, and energy recovery ventilation systems.
