Do you have an industry-changing design approach, research pursuit, or commercial or prototype product to share? To celebrate state-of-the-art technologies in the building industry—and the processes that made them possible—ARCHITECT invites design firms, building product manufacturers, researchers, students, and startups across the AECO industry to enter its 16th annual R+D Awards. Entries must be in active development or completed after Jan. 1, 2019.

Regular deadline entries will now be accepted until Friday, June 3, 2022.

ARCHITECT is also excited to announce the jurors for the 2022 R+D Awards:

-Avideh Haghighi, AIA, Associate Principal & Sustainable Design Leader, ZGF Architects

-Doris Sung, AIA, Principal, DOSU Studio Architecture; Associate Professor, Director of Undergraduate Programs, USC School of Architecture

-Kat Schneider, Digital Design Application Specialist, Associate, IA Interior Architects

ARCHITECT's R+D Awards honors advances in architecture at every scale, from novel design and construction solutions to high-performance building systems and details, newfound project typologies, and go-to products and digital tools. Beyond the polished end result, the jury for the distinctive program reviews the rigor and strategies behind these solutions, as well as the entries' originality and execution. Past winners include self-powered window shades, a modular building block made of drywall waste, a digital tool to estimate the embodied carbon of landscapes, and a humble medicine cabinet that surprises in its elegance and utility.

Entries will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of jurors (TBA).

Start today by registering your entries online—all it takes is an abstract (200 words maximum) accompanied by support materials (20 pages or image files max). Keep it simple. Make it compelling. Your entries will be reviewed by three yet-to-be-announced jurors who straddle the architecture, technology, and innovation space.

Winners will be published in the July/August 2022 print issue of ARCHITECT and on our website.

Register your submission online by the early bird deadline of May 20, 2022, and pay a $175 processing fee for the first entry, and $95 for each subsequent entry. After that date, the fee increases to $225, with each additional entry at $145. Full-time faculty members, students, and researchers at academic institutions pay a reduced processing fee of $95 per entry for both the early bird and regular deadlines.

Upon registering, applicants must submit the project abstract and upload support materials by May 27, 2022, 11:59 p.m. ET 11:59 p.m. ET Friday, June 3. For complete rules and regulations, visit rdawards.com. See past R+D Awards winners at our online archive.

Good luck! We look forward to learning how you're changing the future of architecture and design.
