One lucky family in the Big Easy will get a boost from a team of builders assembled by the popular ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" on the show's two-hour season finale on May 18. The announcement was made at the International Builders' Show in Orlando on Thursday by Joseph Schlenk, director of sales and marketing for Deltec Homes, an Asheville, N.C.-based home builder that specializes in green home building. According to Schlenk, the new home will have multiple green elements.

Deltec Homes is the first on board for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in just seven days, March 8-14. The builder has gathered the construction talents of The EcoBuilders, Round House Consulting, and Jones Construction from its home state, in addition to G & S Construction and Shultz Construction from Mississippi, and Dana Dugas Affordable Homes, NSC Construction, David W. Stewart, and Rutledge Builders from Louisiana.

Also joining the Deltec Homes team will be past show participants Sterling Homes of South Carolina, Simmons Homes of Oklahoma, Jeff Junkert Construction of Montana, Heritage Homes of North Dakota, Shoemaker Homes of Mississippi, Alure Home Improvement of New York, Capitol Homes of Tennessee, and Atreus Homes and Communities of North Carolina, Georgia, New Mexico and Arizona.

The New Orleans project is the final stop of the show's 50-state tour and, according to the show's producers, the home may be the show's toughest challenge yet.

"Even three years later, the Gulf region is still suffering in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and I believe it is going to take the entire nation to rebuild, which is why it makes sense that we would need an extreme coalition of builders from all across this country to pull together and help make a difference in New Orleans for deserving families on the show," says Denise Cramsey, executive producer for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."

Despite assembling a team for the project, the show's producers are still asking for more volunteers to sign up at ExtremeNewOrleans.com. Final details for the show's season finale will be announced in March.
