The Lightfair Innovation Awards program kicked off the May 9 opening of the annual trade show, held this year in Las Vegas. The program received 228 lighting-related product submissions in 14 categories. The two categories with the most entries—"conventional lamps, retrofit/replacement LED lamps," and "controls, daylighting integration, building/site automation systems, power distribution systems"—foreshadowed the prevalence of these product types displayed on the trade show floor by many of the 500-plus exhibitors. The Most Innovative Product of the Year Award and Best in theIndustrial, Vandal, Emergency, Exit Category went to Cast Lighting for its LED Perimeter Light. "Never has so little light...done so much work," said the seven-member awards jury.
