The General Services Administration (GSA) has awarded a contract to Renaissance Lighting, a manufacturer of solid-state downlight fixtures. The company has been placed on the GSA Schedule for the next five years, putting it in a good market position since the majority of government projects use the products and services of GSA Schedule vendors.

Osram Sylvania has opened an expanded clean room that is dedicated to solid-state lighting research. The fully equipped clean room is a multimillion-dollar investment and is meant to expand research initiatives. Also, the company announced research and product development awards from the DOE totaling nearly $2 million. The money will fund core technology and product development projects that will take advantage of Osram Sylvania's new clean room.

The National Association of Electrical Distributors has completed upgrades to its Silver level of the Electrical Products Education Course. The self-study course provides information about individual products and their applications in addition to showing how each is interrelated with other products in electrical systems. Upgrades to the Bronze level were finished in January, and Gold level updates will come this summer.

Hubbell Lighting recently announced the promotion of Bill Foley to a newly created position as vice president and general manager for both Kim Lighting and Architectural Area Lighting. Previously, Foley served as the vice president and general manager for Kim Lighting. Also, Architectural Area Lighting has promoted M.J. Paul to the position of vice president, brand management. Most recently, Paul served as the director of marketing for Kim Lighting. He joined Hubbell Lighting in 1992.

Enmanuel Hwong has been appointed business development specialist for the Carribbean market at Leviton. Hwong, who joined the company in 2004, will oversee the development of new business opportunities.

Future Lighting Solutions (FSL) and Khatod Optoelectronic have announced a worldwide distribution agreement that will bring Khatod's secondary optics for power LEDs to major markets. FSL is the first worldwide distributor of LED optics from Khatod, which is based in Italy.
