The Illuminating Engineering Society’s (IES) Teachers of Light Workshop will be held June 7-12, 2015, at the GE Lighting Institute, Nela Park, Cleveland, Ohio. The workshop is sponsored by the IES, GE Lighting, and Kichler Lighting.
The workshop is geared toward lighting educators–both full and part-time faculty–with significant and on-going responsibility for the teaching of lighting in programs of architecture, building science, engineering, interior design, technology, and theater. Classroom and studio instruction is combined with individual and group work. The course outline assumes some prior basic knowledge of lighting and will cover a variety of topics including, but not limited to: lighting terminology, light sources, the design process, lighting calculations, energy management, daylighting, and lighting controls.
The faculty for this five-day workshop are: Leslie Davis, principal, Leslie Davis Lighting Design, Berkeley, Calif.; Rebecca Hadley-Catter, manager of The Source, Cooper Lighting Industries, Peachtree City, Ga.; Asha Hegde, associate professor of lighting & interior design, Texas State University, San Marcos, Tx.; Terry McGowan, principal, Lighting Ideas, Cleveland, Ohio, and director of engineering, the American Lighting Association, Dallas; and Mark Roush, marketing consultant, Experience Light, New York City area.
Interested participants are required to complete the application materials that must include a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, a description of the current lighting courses offered at the individual’s home institution, and a letter from the department head or dean indicating the extent of the institution’s commitment to lighting education.
The workshop is limited to 21 participants. Grants for room, board, and tuition are available. There is, however, upon acceptance, a one-time, non-refundable $225 fee.
The deadline for applications is February 15, for mailed hard copies to the IES headquarters in New York, or by March 9 if the application is made electronically. All application inquiries can be directed to: Nicole DeGirolamo, IES, 120 Wall Street, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10005-4001, via email.
