LightFair has recognized 14 lighting products in this year's LightFair Innovation Awards, which recognize "innovative products and designs introduced by LightFair 2020 exhibitors during the last 12 months," according to a press release by the trade show and conference co-owned by the Illuminating Engineering Society and International Association of Lighting Designers, and managed by International Market Centers. Because the annual gathering in Las Vegas was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers announced the awards virtually.
The jury of IES and IALD members selected this year's winners, listed below, from a pool of 146 submissions across the competition's 14 categories.
Most Innovative Product of the Year: Magellan, Kuzco Lighting
Magellan is composed of multiple shades surrounding a single orb that emits a diffused light. Offered as a stand-alone light or in clusters, the low-voltage Magellan is available with a black or white finish.
Technical Innovation Award: Lightcloud Smart Outlet, Rab Lighting
The Lightcloud Smart Outlet is a tamper-resistant duplex outlet that provides plug-load control and power monitoring for loads up to 20 amps. It also features energy meters that offer precise power monitoring that ultimately lead to energy savings.
Design Excellence Award: Hero, Glint Photonics
Hero is a track luminaire that allows users to aim the light without physically tilting the fixture. Instead, they can use an integrated joystick to aim the light only, making the product suitable for installation in tighter spaces. Inward pointing LEDs, an adaptive baffle, and anti-reflective materials help maintain a low glare.
Judge’s Citation: IES eLearning Portal, Illuminating Engineering Society
Billed as the first of its kind, the IES eLearning Portal provides users with online lighting education through a number of one-hour courses covering 15 topics, including the IES TM-30 standard, connected lighting, and the internet of things. Each course offers continuing education credits for professionals in the lighting industry.
