The incentive to go green isn’t new among consumers. Large-scale national initiatives pushing for new, clean energy sources and individual consumer behaviors have prompted a shift in the way people define sustainability. Commercial construction is no exception and therefore should take advantage of the array of choices available in today’s marketplace. Metal construction already is seen as a cost-effective, efficient building solution and easily can be fitted or adapted to meet additional sustainability goals through the use of solar products. From roofing applications to wall panels to photovoltaic technology, these products are increasingly appearing on metal buildings. Furthermore, programs such as LEED certification from the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council help quantify green practices, with customers and metal construction industry professionals aspiring on both ends to achieve these requirements, opening the door for increased usage of solar products in construction.
