SunPower Shows Off Its New Home Solar System

A new solar system from SunPower could revolutionize residential renewable energy.

A new residential solar energy system from SunPower has caught the eye of CleanTechnica’s James Ayre. The company is touting the Equinox as the first product of its kind in the United States that’s been designed and engineered by one company to work together seamlessly. It is also nearly invisible, which makes it ideal for design applications that are modern or minimalist, says the firm.

With a typical Equinox installation, only the solar panels and a smart energy management device are visible. The company says it will be a game-changer for the residential solar market, Ayre reports.

The SunPower Equinox platform was engineered based on the company’s The Power of One philosophy, which drives innovation of preconfigured solutions that simplify solar for consumers. In 2010, SunPower introduced its Oasis Power Plant, the world’s first fully integrated utility solar platform, which enables rapid, cost-effective construction of large-scale power plants, now with over 1.8 gigawatts (GW) deployed.

Unfortunately, like most reports on solar technology, this omits data on cost of equipment and installation.
