The 2014 top 50 firms for sustainability are here. Now in its sixth year, the Architect 50 ranks the top firms for business, design, and sustainability based on data collected from firm entries, which include all projects completed or in progress throughout 2013.

Weighted criteria measured to determine the top firms for sustainability include:

  • 45% energy and water metrics
  • 25% scored portfolio for project best demonstrating sustainability
  • 20% participation in AIA's 2030 commitment
  • 10% share of firm's employees with LEED credentials

This year's top firm is EYP Architecture and Engineering. EYP has been rooted in energy efficiency since its inception in the 1970's, but took home performance to a new level beginning with the 2012 merger with the Weidt Group. EYP now collects energy data for most projects, helping save clients money through reduced utility use. EYP also installs metering systems that allow continued monitoring of performance after the project's completion to benchmark energy reduction. Finally, EYP completed daylighting studies for all 2013 projects and aims to reach net zero for a project or meet requirements for the AIA 2030 challenge. Here's a sneak peak at the firms that made the top 10 for sustainability in 2014:

  1. EYP Architecture and Engineering
