Eco-friendly finishes that match a space’s aesthetics are one way to rally skeptical clients around sustainable design principles. This week’s collection of products includes a minimalist furniture series, durable high-performance green flooring, and colorful solar panels that can double as cladding—helping clients and occupants see green in more than one way.

Su Collection, Emeco and Nendo
Hanover, Pa.–based Emeco, maker of the classic Navy Chair, is collaborating with Japanese design studio Nendo on a series of chairs, stools, and tables made from sustainable materials. The Su Collection, which derives from a minimalist Japanese design aesthetic, features Emeco’s trademark seat supported by slender legs. The seat is available in reclaimed oak; concrete that includes recycled bottles and calcium sulfoaluminate cement, which requires less energy to manufacture than Portland cement; and recycled polyethylene (shown) that comprises 75% post-industrial and 25% post-consumer content and that comes in red, and light and dark gray colors. The legs are offered in recycled aluminum and reclaimed oak.

Mipolam Medical Symbioz, Gerflor
Symbioz, one of four options in the Mipolam Medical collection from Gerflor, is a phthalate-free vinyl flooring made with a 100% bio-based plasticizer. The antimicrobial flooring resists stains and it is offered in 26 tone-on-tone and non-directional colorations (sandstone, left; lagoon, right).

ATFKrom, Antec Solar
Integrating photovoltaics panels in a structure’s façade can be challenging due to the technology’s limited design options. German solar-panel fabricator Antec Solar is hoping to give solar cladding a lift with its ATFKrom line of colored PV modules in terra cotta, green, and blue. The company uses Kromatix-brand solar glass from Lausanne, Switzerland–based SwissINSO on the custom thin-film and crystalline photovoltaic modules.

Milestone, Masland Contract
A collection of six carpet styles from Masland Contract offers visual texture and subtle color contrast, making it a fit for applications such as senior care facilities. The broadloom designs are made from solution-dyed 100% Universal Fibers Type 6,6, which are engineered to resist stains. Milestone is certified Gold by the National Science Foundation’s Sustainable Carpet Standard. Ten designs are offered (vitality, shown).

Lighting Performance Calculator, Guardian Industries
Guardian Industries’ online tool may help designers better understand how high-performance glass and coatings affect their projects’ daylighting potential. The Lighting Performance Calculator uses metrics, such as fixture count, light output, lumens, wattage, and photometric data, to determine the number of fixtures required for a job and to compare performance, costs, and payback periods.

Vantage II, Teragren
An FSC-certified strand bamboo wear layer tops an FSC- and CARB II-certified eucalyptus plywood substrate in this series of engineered wide-plank flooring from Teragren. The Vantage II collection of tongue-and-groove boards uses a zero-VOC hardwax-oil finish. Chestnut, wheat (shown), chestnut wirebrushed, and wheat wirebrushed finishes are offered.
