Esto Gallery: Train Stations

As the nation investigates the potential of high speed rail, ARCHITECT looks at its train stations, and those of other countries, through images collected by Esto photographers.

Recent proposals for revamps of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, and the Union Stations in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., trade nostalgia for the great rail stations of yesteryear for recognition of essential train-shed improvements. With high speed rail on the horizon in Miami and other major U.S. cities, the need for new infrastructure has prompted a review of designs for the nation’s venerable rail halls. The photographers at Esto, who have shot train stations around the world, offer glimpses of landmarks from the last railroad age, and their more modern counterparts, both at home and abroad.
