The Allegheny County Airport Authority has selected three firms to design a new terminal at the Pittsburgh International Airport, the authority announced on Friday. Selected from 11 initial RFQ responses and four shortlisted teams, a joint venture of Gensler and HDR with Luis Vidal + Architects have been commissioned to create an initial design for the terminal, which will house ticketing, check-in, baggage, and security. The project team plans to release initial designs next year.
Gensler and HDR—based in San Francisco and Omaha, Neb., respectively—both operate offices in Pennsylvania, and Madrid-based Luis Vidal + Architects has a stateside office in Houston, according to the firms’ websites.
“As a lifelong resident,” said Bill Peduzzi, HDR’s aviation director based in Pittsburgh, in a press release, “I am thrilled to apply what I have learned from a career spent in airport development and hope to inspire the next generation of aviation leaders to continue to innovate and enhance the role great airports can play in a community.”
